Not looking to "save money" on my 496.  My combination should get me close to 700 HP/tq naturally.  Can't freakin wait to hear it roar

Was OP talking about a budget build or not?  Seems he was talking about comparing apples to oranges. Full LS build vs what it replaced...not full build. Take me for example. Just the heads on my truck plus having Tony Mamo touch them cost more than what ya'll are saying the whole build cost. Did I really need them, probably not. But that's just what I wanted. I do know it better run like a mofo when I start leanin on it. I should have it back really soon so I'll throw up some videos.

I didn't want to do an LS strictly because the truck came with a BB. Any other truck, I would have done LS. And besides, my wagon has an LSA already, don't need to flood the garage with only the trendy stuff.

Originally the post was about building a BBC vs replacing with a yard LS.  To me that is ridiculous.  I was talking about a 454ss , and replacing the BBC with the assembled LS.   I am building what I think is a pretty stout combination for my skill level.  I Guess I am just curious why some folks take a vehicle that is known for a BBC and convert to LS, just because it's cheap?
I just wanted to start a interesting conversation.  I'd be happy to put an LS3 swap in a v6 chevelle build.  But an original BBC car should stay BBC....

Personally, I find the LS engine about as imaginative as the old ZZ-350's back in the 90's.  In fact I let all my magazine subscriptions expire, because I was sick of seeing LS's in Chevelles, early Camaros, and 70's-80"s model trucks.  They are extremely ugly and dull.  If your car or truck came with a big block, it needs to stay big block, don't commit a sacrilege and convert an SS into a LSS Lips Sealed

Thank you

But I am going to go even farther. So you swap an LS engine into a 454SS. So you removed the one determining part that makes a 454SS truck an SS truck, other than the "N"in the VIN number.
GM finally builds a real sport truck with potential, its actually the only sport truck Chevrolet has ever built,  ok it has the absolute lowest power big block of any big block, but its still a big block.
If you going to go LS anyway why not just buy a truck with an LS in it from the factory or take any plain 1990-1993 GM pickup and LS swap it.
Obviously the appreciation for a true 454 SS trucks have disappeared.
If you have swapped an LS in place of the big block I think you should remove those nice labels off the the side that say "454 SS". Cause if you pop the hood to show me the engine and I see an LS......yawn.
its almost like the seeing those Impala's running around with fake SS badges or non SS  1990-1993 trucks with small blocks running around with 454SS stickers.
I don't care if you do go 454 LSX is still not a big block.

And that blasphemy of an all wheel drive 2004-2007 LS pickup doesn't deserve to wear the SS badge and I don't consider it a sport truck. Dam GM degrading the label of SS.
As far as cost, an LS is not less expensive when you start making real power. If you start with a salvage yard engine and put a turbo on it, what do you have? A salvage yard engine with a turbo on it.
Stroker kits for LS engines, you should listen to some of Nelson racing engines on stock block LS stroker kits. not recommended at all for durability unless you like piston rock and shortened life.

So you should really expect this kind of response, look at the name of the board: 454SS.com

Anyway its just my opinion, to each their own.

There were 13,802 1974 Z28's made. I got two of them!
1974 Camaro coupe
1974 Z28 restoration project
1974 Z28 shell ( more of a project)
1992 Chevy Silverado (black with red interior V6 5speed) 454SS wannabe.
Anything with turbos is cool, anything with two turbos is twice as cool!
